Babington House

Luxury in the countryside

The story of Babington House started long before the building became renowned as one of the Soho House clubs. First built in 1705 for Henry Mompesson, it was extensively altered and extended over the years by a succession of owners until Nick Jones bought the house in 1998.

Now Grade II* listed, Babington House became the second Soho House club to open and the first one to provide bedrooms. The original Cowshed spa, now a staple of the Soho House experience across the globe, was founded there.

Our team at Mann Williams worked on several projects to convert the House into a luxurious hotel and spa, from the Orangery Restaurant to the Playroom bedroom in the main house and the Cowshed spa.

From a wide range of works...

The conversion throughout required the careful merging of highly modern designs and classical foundations, an exciting challenge.

Part of the old kitchen garden was also turned into a leisure and relaxation facility featuring spa baths, dry and wet areas, treatment and massage rooms. The remainder of the kitchen garden is now a thriving source of organic fruit and vegetables for the Babington kitchen.

... to unanimous success

The success of the hotel has raised the profile of the area and created both employment and new businesses for local people. In recognition of the quality of the scheme and facilities produced, Babington House was voted “Spa of the Year 2009” in Tatler Magazine.
