Gainsborough Bath Spa

Turning a local landmark into a spa gem

Built in the 1800s in the heart of Bath, two Grade II Listed buildings renowned for their Georgian and Victorian façades were converted into the Gainsborough Bath Spa, a luxury hotel designed by New York-based award-winning Champalimaud Design. All guestrooms and suites are custom-furnished, combining fine period details with graceful interiors.

Major works

The works involved the refurbishment of the main wings of the Gainsborough Building, the construction of a new wing on Lower Borough Walls, and the re-designing of the 17th century Bellotts annexe, now linked to the Gainsborough by a tunnel.

From tradition to luxury

Occupying two floors, the 1,300-square-meter Spa Village Bath has direct access to the celebrated thermal waters that gave its name and reputation to Bath. As such, its three therapeutic pools, set in an atrium flooded with natural light, offer the only natural thermal spa within a hotel in the United Kingdom.
