Sherborne House Makes the AJ Shortlist
Sherborne House has just been shortlisted as a Positive Addition (£2 million and over) for this year's AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards.
After staying empty for over a decade, this Grade I-listed landmark was revived into a vibrant arts centre. Designed by SPASE, the project combined careful conservation of the 18th century building with ambitious additions inside and out.
Our work ranged from bespoke fabric repairs to amendments to the main structure for better circulation, paving details to enhance the historic landscape, complex excavations, and the structural concept design of elegant glulam frames, which now house a large meeting room and bar.
The project has already been shortlisted for several awards - the Georgian Group Awards 2024, the Wood Awards 2024, and the Structural Timber Awards 2024. The AJ' shortlisting brings further recognition of the ground-breaking work our team, architects and contractors did to restore Sherborne House.
Winners will be revealed on September 10th, 2025, at The Brewery in London.
