Trowbridge Town Hall
A Hall for all
The Grade II listed Town Hall in Trowbridge has undergone extensive restoration works since 2023. Opened in 1889, the Town Hall first housed a library, courts and holding cells, along with a remarkable ballroom. Now run by the Trowbridge Town Hall Trust, the Hall has been brought to a new life as a state-of-the-art venue for music and the arts.
We were appointed to help with this new vision for the Hall. The programme achieved the restoration of the Great Ballroom; the transformation of the old Magistrates Court into a performance space; the refurbishment of basement cells into seven recording studios; the creation of a new art gallery; the installation of a new sprung floor in the Park View Room; and the opening out of the foyer for local people and visitors.

Improvements throughout
We carried out dynamic assessment of existing floor structures and assessed the feasibility and implications of removing modern, intrusive additions to improve circulation. An extensive scheme of strengthening the Great Hall roof ensured the structure is now able to support the increased load required for sound proofing.
A Town Hall fit for modern times
Through careful detailing we ensured that modern frames required for supporting the Audio-Visual equipment were discreet and compatible with the historic nature of the building. Our structural assessment and detailing enabled the extensive reservicing of the building, while facilitating level access to the majority of the Town Hall.
A landmark success
The carefully crafted structural details and thoughtfully designed structural interventions enabled the architectural vision for reviving Trowbridge Town Hall to come to fruition. Our work over the 18-month programme of restoration and remodelling facilitated the respectful and sympathetic delivery of a modern music and community venue within a significant historic asset in the heart of Wiltshire.
