Work starts again on Whitfield Tabernacle

After three years of delays, works are about to start again to restore Whitfield Tabernacle. The Grade I Listed building in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, was built in 1741 by preachers to serve as a local meeting house. Later on, its purpose was adapted to meet the needs of its community, turning the Tabernacle into a sanctuary, a schoolroom, a polling station, and now, thanks to the restoration efforts, a creative hub.

The Tabernacle deteriorated significantly over the past thirty years, leaving the building a ruin. The Whitfield Tabernacle Trust, formed in 2017 precisely to save the building, appointed a team led by Ferguson Mann Architects to repair and refurbish the Tabernacle. With Phase II now underway, the Trust hopes to reopen the building by the end of 2026.
