Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Assessing Telford’s Masterpiece
Making the most of the long summer days, it has been a privilege to spend the week surveying Thomas Telford’s early 19thcentury engineering masterpiece.
The aqueduct is a pioneering engineering structure utilising both cast and wrought Iron to form the aqueduct arches. The grade 1 structure is part of the wider UNESCO World Heritage site and a series of modern assessment techniques have been utilised to understand the structural form, condition and integrity of Telford’s original design.
